STUDENT ARRIVAL
Each teacher has a designated entrance where he or she will enter.
Student Drop-off
Students can be dropped off in the front of the school on the opposite side of 19th St. and cross with a crossing guard. Under no circumstances are students to be dropped off in the Bus Zone or along the median separating the Bus Zone and street before or after school. You may choose to drop your child off at the Pontiac Drop Off opening at 7:30. Breakfast will be served from 7:30-8:00 when the first bell rings. The tardy bell rings at 8:05 followed by announcements, pledges and then the academic day begins. Any students arriving after 8:05 will be marked tardy.
Bus Riders
Students will remain on the bus until a staff member is present to pick them up.
Late Arrivals
Please ring the doorbell at the front entrance of the building. A staff member will check you in.
Breakfast and Lunch
Breakfast will be served from 7:30 am - 8:00 am in the cafeteria. For lunch, students will eat in the cafeteria. For 2022-23 all students at Buena Vista eat for FREE. Students in K - 1st grade will eat at 10:45 am - 11:15 am. Students in 2nd - 3rd grade will eat at 11:15 am - 11:45 am. Students in 4th - 5th grade will eat at 11:45 am - 1215 pm.
STUDENT DISMISSAL
Students will use designated exits in an effort to decrease student traffic.
Student Pick-up
At the end of the day, the Day Care van and bus riders will be dismissed as their transportation arrives and a check off system is used to track those who ride. The same areas used for drop off are utilized for pick up. Teachers will keep students until their pick-up person is present. Please remember to bring an ID. If using the Parent Drive Through on Pontiac it is not necessary to park and get out to get your child, you may have to circle but when the teacher sees you they will bring the child to you.
To avoid traffic jams students dismissed at the Parent Drive Through on Pontiac will follow this schedule:
Kinder 2:55
1st at 2:57
2nd at 3:00
Grades 3-5 will be dismissed at the 19th Street school Exit
3rd grade 2:55
4th grade 2:57
5th grade 3:00
All siblings will be dismissed at the same time younger siblings are dismissed and will leave through the same exit area.
If you are late, you will need to pick up your student at the front office.
Bus Riders
Students will be walked to their bus on the North side of the building. In the event of inclement weather, students will wait in the classroom until the bus arrives.
Early Sign-Out
If you need to sign your student out early, call the front office (575-812-5100) before arriving at the building. Once you arrive, ring the doorbell, and a staff member will check your ID before releasing the student. If the ID holder is NOT on the contact list, the student will NOT be released. Please ensure that contact and emergency information has been updated on PowerSchool.
